Woodside Houses is a low income 22.3 acre New York City Housing Association complex between 49th & 51st Streets, and 31st Ave & Newton Road. It has 20 six story buildings and houses an estimated 3,440 people. Established in 1949, Woodside Houses sits directly next to William Cullen Bryant High School.
Pictured is the Woodside Houses main courtyard off Newton Road. Inside the courtyard there is a memorial for African American firefighter and Woodside Houses native Vernon “Cowboy” Cherry who died in the September 11 attacks at the World Center.
Woodside Houses has the oldest unresolved repair requests in the entire NYCHA system.
