Northwestern Queens: Sunnyside Gardens

Sunnyside Gardens is a middle class neighborhood located within Sunnyside. Covering 77 acres between Queens Boulevard and the Sunnyside Railroad Yards, the construction of Sunnyside Gardens was completed in 1928 by the City Housing Corporation. Sunnyside Gardens is one of America’s first planned Garden Suburbs. In 1984, Sunnyside Gardens was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Pictured is the Sunnyside Gardens Park located on 39th Ave. Sunnyside Gardens Park is a private park owned by the residents of Sunnyside Gardens. Built in 1926, Sunnyside Gardens is only one of two private parks in New York City.

Every Fall, Sunnyside Gardens Park holds an arts festival labeled “Flicks in the Garden.”
