South Jamaica is a mixed working class neighborhood south of downtown Jamaica. Like many Queens neighborhoods South Jamaica has no true border.
Pictured is Poor Freddie’s Rib Shack. The owner of the Rib Shack is Freddie Dill. Freddie was a staple in the Southside, owning a tire shop, auto repair business, & his famed restaurant. Because of all of Dill’s civic efforts he even had a street renamed for him in neighboring Saint Albans. Opened in 1988, The Rib Shack is an exclusively take out only restaurant that serves BBQ & Southern style fare. The restaurant is run like a cafeteria, and some days the line strings past it’s main entrance.
Nikki Minaj is a native of South Jamaica.
