Southwestern Queens: Ozone Park

Ozone Park is a middle class community with a large Italian American population. Ozone Park was established in 1882. The name was created to “lure buyers with the idea of refreshing breezes blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean to a park-like community.” In the late 1980’s Mobster John Gotti ran his multi million operation out of the Bergin Hunt and Fish Club @ 98-04 101st Ave.

Pictured is the Resorts World Casino, New York City’s only gaming hall, opened in 2011. The Aqueduct Race Track, a horse-racing facility and racino is also on the same grounds.

In 1995, Pope John Paul II held a mass for a crowd of 75,000 at the Aqueduct Racetrack.
