Maspeth Plateau is a mixed middle class sub neighborhood of Maspeth. Considered the last high ground in western Queens, the plateau is the residential end of Maspeth. The highest point in the plateau are the grounds of Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The entrance to Mt. Olivet is on Grand Ave., the plateau’s main commercial street.
Pictured is the FDNY’s Hazardous Materials Unit Squad#288 located on 68th street. On September 11, 2001, this firehouse lost eight firemen to the World Trade Center explosions. Around the corner on 69th street & Grand avenue 9/11 memorial was erected on Memorial Square.
O’neill’s Restaurant on 53rd Drive hosted the 1986 World Series champion New York Mets squad after their game#7 clinching win.
