Glendale is a middle class neighborhood in west central Queens. In the mid-nineteenth century this area was a German farming community named Fresh Ponds. In 1860, developer George C. Schott was given a large portion of Fresh Ponds as repayment for a debt. Schott renamed the land Glendale after his hometown in Ohio. Today Glendale is separated into 3 main areas, Upper Glendale, Middle Glendale and Lower Glendale.
