Southeastern Queens: Briarwood
Briarwood is a mixed middle class neighborhood just northwest of Jamaica, Queens. The neighborhood is named after the Briarwood Land Company, which build housing in the area starting in 1905.
Pictured is Archbishop Molloy Catholic High School located on Manton Street. Molloy established in 1892, is nationally known for its successful sports program. The legendary basketball & baseball coach Jack Curran, finished his career as the winningest coach in NYC & NY state history. Long time St. John’s coach Lou Carnesecca started his career there, as did NBA players Kenny Smith & Kenny Anderson.
Followers of the religious organization “Sri Chinmoy Centre Church, Inc.” live in a row of painted blue houses on Normal Road.
