The Rockaways: Breezy Point

Breezy Point is a heavily Irish middle class privately owned community on the far western end of the Rockaways. The community began as summer beach bungalows in the early 1900’s. By 1960, Breezy Point was sold to the Atlantic Improvement State Corporation, who in turn sold half the land to its residents.

Pictured is the St. Thomas More-St. Edmund Blessed Trinity Parish located on Rockaway Point Boulevard.

During Hurricane Sandy in 2012, residents took to the church for refuge. The area is commonly referred to as the “Irish Riviera.”
