Who We Are

2.3 million people live here. 138 languages can be heard. 125 different neighborhoods in this borough. Queens is known as the suburbs of Manhattan, an outer borough that isn’t Brooklyn, but it is much more than that. Queens is such a culturally diverse place and each neighborhood is distinct. The goal of QNSMADE is to give a voice to the people that make up this colorful borough.

QNSMADE is comprised of four major sections: Interviews with Queens natives and recent transplants (PROFILE), portraits of people in all the various Queens neighborhoods (SPOTTED), a look of all 125 different neighborhoods (HISTORY) and a directory of local Queens businesses (RESOURCES).

About the Founder, Amy Wu

Raised in Flushing, Queens, Amy graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in Graphic Design. She has worked as a print designer for five years and returned back to SVA to study Interaction Design‬. The idea behind QNSMADE came out of her Entrepreneurial Design class. She has always been interested in designing for local good and QNSMADE is a small contribution to where she has called home for 28 years and counting. She hopes that QNSMADE will shed light to all things Queens through interviews, photographs, historical context and a directory of local businesses.
